Boston Shriners Hospital Elects New Chairman of the Board of Governors

Posted on March 31, 2019

Robert L. Turner, of Windham, Maine, has been elected chairman of the Board of Governors for Shriners Hospitals for Children — Boston. Mr. Turner has been a member of the hospital board for more than eight years, most recently serving as vice chairman. He succeeds Robert L. Baker, CPA.

Mr. Turner has been a Mason since 1967, and is a member of the Scottish Rite of Bangor and Consistory of Portland, Maine. He joined Anah Shrine in Bangor, Maine, in 2001 and served as Potentate of Anah Shriners in 2016. Mr. Turner graduated from the University of Maine, Portland, with a Bachelor of Science degree in business management. For much of his career he owned and operated a successful business selling funeral supplies throughout New England.

Mr. Turner has been very active in his community over the years, serving as a member of the Derry, New Hampshire Lions Club, the president of the Kiwanis Club in Brewer, Maine, and a deacon and trustee for the Second
Congregational Church, also in Brewer. He coached the Lassie Softball League and was a director and coach of the Police Athletic League, both in Brewer. Mr. Turner is also a trustee for the Windham Hill United Church
of Christ in Windham, Maine.

As he begins his tenure as chairman, Mr. Turner is committed to guiding the Boston Shriners Hospital as it carries on its mission to provide the highest quality of care to more children in more places in the areas of burn care, cleft lip and palate care, and reconstructive and laser plastic surgery. He also looks forward to expanding relationships with donors and organizations in support of the hospital’s endeavors to further improve the quality of care offered to children and their families.

Mr. Turner and his wife, Bonnie, have three daughters and sons-in-law, Heidi and Bob, Tammie and Mike, and Amy and Casey. They also have seven grandchildren, Brandon, Connor, Grace, Maclain, Sidney,
Eleanor and Colby.

In his spare time, Mr. Turner enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, reading and cooking. However, his true passion lies in improving the lives of our patients – seeing the children smile and watching them heal.
